History

The University of Bedfordshire was first established in 1882 as Bedford Training College for Teachers, which later became Bedford Physical Training College in 1903. It was in 1992 that it gained university status as the University of Luton.

The University of Luton merged with De Montfort University’s Bedford campus in 2016 to establish the University of Bedfordshire.

The University of Bedfordshire is recognised as one of the leading educational institutes in the United Kingdom and is home to thousands of students worldwide.

Luton is Bedfordshire’s largest town, offering ideal countryside entertainment options for a little time off from studies. The Luton campus holds an annual grand carnival called the Luton Carnival, which is known all over the UK as one of the biggest one-day festivals.

The Bedford campus is located near a riverside town that is tastefully articulate with a variety of parks and open spaces. The campus also hosts an annual ‘River Festival’ that offers entertainment activities on and off the river. Bedford campus also holds various other events throughout the year that can very conveniently be accessed by motorway from the rest of the UK.

All campuses are in close vicinity to town centre, offering a wide range of restaurants and bar option for its students. Other than this, students can entertain themselves by visiting nearby museums, theatres and art galleries.

Living Accommodations

Accommodation at Luton Campus

The University of Bedfordshire offers a variety of accommodation options at its Luton Campus, from state-of-the-art studio apartments to on-campus student accommodation. The accommodation comes with free access to an on-site gym, 24-hour laundry and 24-hour security. In addition to this, students can also spend time at the group study room or unwind and entertain themselves in the games, media or group study room or the communal lounge.

Accommodation at Bedford Campus

Bedford offers multiple on-campus accommodation options, ranging from purpose-built student rooms to suite and deluxe rooms and studio flats. Students looking for more affordable accommodation options can stay at the Student Village which offers 70 standard rooms with shared bathrooms and a few suite rooms.

The weekly living cost is estimated to be around £100 to £120. This covers accommodation, food and personal expenses.

  • Bedford campus – outside Gateway Building Reception
  • Goldington Road – public bus stops by the junction of Caves Lane and Howbury Street
  • St Peter’s Street – public bus stop in front of John Bull Jewellers
  • Bus station – by the loading bay in front of Habisons, in between the Murco garage and the taxi layby
  • Railway Station – bus stop in front of forecourt
  • Alexander Sports Centre – on corner by gates to ASC
  • Warwick Avenue – public bus stop shortly after junction with Linden Road
  • Roff Avenue – public bus stop by Garfield Street
  • Polhill Avenue – public bus stop just after junction with Kimbolton Road
  • Bedford campus – outside Gateway Building Reception
